WELCOME to NEE SOON SOUTH

  CELEBRATING 43 YEARS OF INDEPENDENCE

On 2nd August 2008, over 1,800 guests comprising of community leaders, friends, supporters and residents of Nee soon South gathered at Nee Soon South Celebration Square to dine and celebrate the Birthday of Singapore. The annual event organized by Nee soon South CCC also paid tribute to long serving Grassroots Leaders and National Awardees. In conjunction with Nee Soon South 20th anniversary celebrations, a special drama cum dance show was put up to reminisce the 20 years of progress of the Division.

Following the celebration the very next day, a Super Sunday event also unfolded with lots of songs, dances and music to entertain a huge crowd. Guest-of Honour for both occasions, Er LEE BEE WAH, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC and Adviser for Nee Soon South GROs was generous with praises for the Grassroots leaders and community residents who have contributed generous time, energy, ideas and funds to help the Division grow with ever-mindfulness and purpose to enhance the social and welfare aspects – like looking after the less fortunate and needy elderly with a wide array of programs.

Then came the morning of 9th of August 2008 where bus-loads of Nee Soon Southerners adorned in bright yellow tees descended to Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 to join a crowd of 5,000 residents coming from the other 5 divisions of Ang Mo Kio GRC and Yio Chu Kang SMC to celebrate the National Day Observance ceremony. Led by the Prime Minister, the Members of Parliament joined guests, grassroots leaders and residents to sing our National Anthem, recite the Pledge and several National songs in four languages. The Poor were also not forgotten as food hampers were given out to more than a thousand needy residents from the various divisions. A cheque was also presented to the Chinese Embassy to aid the earthquake victims of Sichuan, China and the Red Cross to aid the cyclone victims in Myanmar.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SINGAPORE

  RACIAL HARMONY IN MOTION

The annual event of Nee Soon South Racial Harmony Day held at Khatib Plaza on 26th July 2008 is given a fresh multi-dimensional endorsement by the sheer fact that so many relevant organizations and groups have descended to weave the Fabric of Peace and Trust in this vibrant and spirited enclave in the North.

To begin with, the Inter Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) launched its first-of-its-kind website with Guest-of Honour, Er Lee Bee Wah pressing the button. The six adopted learning institutions of Nee Soon South were fully represented and its students were out in force manning games and activity booths that kept the hundreds of guests, residents & visitors delightfully engaged. Then there were the staff from Alexandra Hospital - an extension to the Khoo Teck Puat Hospital now under construction, kept busy by the long queue of people seeking free medical check-up and health screening. Many Agencies were also present to mingle with residents and offering pertinent messages that promotes good neighbourliness and social well-being. The crowd was also entertained by artistes adorning colourful multi-racial and ethnic costumes and performing delightful songs and dances - depicting the very genuine facet of harmonious living in our community.
